Karen's Approach

Executive Coaching - Developmental Roadmap

Just as an iceberg is driven across the ocean by the invisible ice beneath the surface, a leader's success is in direct correlation to the inner quality of his invisible mental mechanisms. Many leaders are unaware of the mental survival strategies dictating their actions and behaviors and the impact on their business and team success. Left unexamined and undeveloped, leaders operate from a state of old, habitual conditioning and thereby limit their true future potential.

Positive Intelligence approaches leadership competence from the inside out. Using techniques from Neuroscience, Cognitive Psychology, and Performance Science, Karen helps leaders "upgrade their inner operating system" by helping leaders examine their beliefs, values, needs and attitudes that currently drive their thinking and behavior. Once leaders are aware of how they are operating they can begin making more conscious choices that result in higher performance achievement, better relationships, and personal transformation.

Positive Intelligence (PQ)

Laser focused conscious choices are developed by understanding how habitual patterns of thinking, feeling, and reacting become soft-coded in our brain through neural pathways during childhood and through life experiences. These neural pathways live in the "survival" part of our brain and when triggered by external events hijack us emotionally, generating  negativity in the way we respond to challenges. These "mental saboteurs" cause most of our unproductive stress, anxiety, self-doubt, frustration, and unhappiness in our work and life.

In contrast, a different part of the brain handles challenges in ways that produce positive emotions like curiosity, creativity, empathy, and clear-headed laser-focused action. Positive Intelligence (PQ) can be described as a "mental fitness" strategy that helps leaders strengthen their leadership capacity to respond to challenges from a place of innovation and opportunity in pursuit of corporate and professional goals.

Positive Intelligence (PQ) uses three core factors to build leadership capacity:

1. Saboteur Interceptor Muscle

Your Saboteurs (Invisible Negative Mental Mechanisms) generate all your negative emotions, including stress, anxiety, self-doubt, anger, avoidance, procrastination, insensitivity or discontent. Mental fitness requires the ability to intercept the negative reactions and discredit the old mental conditioning.

2. Sage Muscle

Your Sage (Invisible Positive Mental Mechanism) is the part of your brain that handles challenges with a clear and calm mind, and positive emotions. It also has access to 5 primary competencies: Empathize, Explore, Innovate, Navigate, and Activate.

3. Self-Command Muscle

You’re not in full command of your mind. If you were, you would not be up at 3:00 AM stressing over events. We build up the Self-Command muscle in the brain with PQ Reps, which are innovative 10-second exercises that interrupt the automatic response mechanism. Leaders learn to run their brain, rather than allow their hijacked brain to run them.

Integral Approach to Executive Coaching

Business results essentially depend on the choices and actions of Conscious Leaders and their ability to operate in a three dimensional business space made up of three critical domains:

I-We-It Graphic.png

Many Leaders tend to primarily focus on achievement in the technical (IT) domain, fostering the accomplishment of the organization's economic value and mission. Success, however, depends on people working together, coordinating their efforts for a common purpose. The WE domain includes building teams, developing others, building trust, and creating a culture of solidarity. The WE domain therefore is a crucial business investment for all organizations.

The third domain critical to leadership and business success is creating an environment in which people are happy, productive, and have opportunities to self-actualize (I).

Executive Coaching supports leaders to balance these three critical domains in the pursuit of long-term sustainable results.
